The Truth About Why Mediocrity Starts Young

Most of the pitfalls and setbacks we encounter as adults are due to our upbringing.
This assessment isn’t unique, or particularly insightful. (It’s just obvious.)
Nor is it a general indictment of caregivers, but simply denotes a lack of understanding.
You see, our shortcomings today are because we overlooked the little things.
We were not held to clear standards that instill responsibility and build character (e.g. doing chores or mastering school work).
At crucial times we were able to quit because a task was difficult.
It was never explained to us that life is difficult, and there is no other viable reality.
I’m sure your loved ones meant well when they abetted your giving up on a talent or skill. But maybe it wasn’t about your ability. Possibly your focus could have been righted by a vigilant role model who offered criticism and encouragement.
You’ll never know how far you could have gone, back then.
Because when things got tough, you checked out, and were maybe even rewarded for just “trying.”
But where did it get you? What kind of person have you become?
I know…
Today you can apathetically walk away from a challenging job or relationship, while settling for “ideal” situations that actually diminish your character and numb your spirit.
Conveniently your laziness is masked by social/emotional excuses, because some so-called expert has validated your feelings.
Yes, it’s easy to never become the person you were meant to be.
Too easy…
But then, you’re probably so busy avoiding the truth, you’ve never imagined your life any other way.
Take care,
Gary.

Why Your Entitlement Is Killing Your Desire

We’re living in an era where a little goes a long way.
It’s not uncommon to see people of lower and middle class economic standings adopt bourgeois tastes and behavior, believing it makes them “different” or “special.”
I’m sure you’ve witnessed faux entitlement in action, and have probably bought into some of these fallacies yourself. (Don’t sweat it too tough. Insecurity always seeks attachment.)
However, the irony remains. The pseudo-elite believe themselves “free,” while actually embracing hardcore conformist doctrine.
For example, take stereotypes such as vegetarians are morally superior to meat-eaters, yoga makes you “aware” and poor black people are more spiritual than non-members of this group. Yet, contrary to the popularity of these beliefs, none of them are necessarily true, let alone “universal.”
These are neat categories created for economic and social regulation. Not quantifiable facts. Still, if you figure out how to thrive contrary to popular design, you’re given labels such as contrarian or rebel, which certainly aren’t definitive.
Entitlement is an escape from responsibility.
By latching on to popular doctrine, formed in the trenches of divide and conquer politics, the gullible think they’re doing something great, when actually the results are quite mundane.
Ultimately conformists stop growing and never realize their true potential, as achieved through intense personal scrutiny and battle-tested principles.
Further, the real problem with entitlement is an inherent contradiction. Why do you need to embrace certain ideas or join a group to be free? Because the very act of doing so means you’re not.
True power is finding your own path and living in accordance with your values. You don’t need to be affirmed by an individual or group.
The trap of chasing enlightenment, and embracing “self-help” trends, is a bottomless pit. You’ll never find the satisfaction you’re craving.
Life is about self-discovery. They’re no ancient secrets or new age wonders that will magically transform your reality.
Create the life you want.
That’s all the truth you need.

Why You Should Stop Being A Self-Help Junkie

What I’m about to say might sound contrary to what this blog’s about, but I must keep it real with you.
Fact: there are no keys to success.
That’s right. No book or program is suddenly going to make you global and put millions in your bank account.
I know, they’ve been times when you got profound insight from an article or quote. But let’s be honest. How did that information work out for you? Is your business sky-rocking and finances off the charts?
No?
I didn’t think so.
Years ago, when in the throws of my “search for success,” I discovered that self-help is just that, helping the people that sell you products get rich.
Don’t feel bad, you’re weren’t the only one taken in by slick salesmen.
In fact, they’re just like you, trying to make a profit.
But the difference between you and them is that they knew what they wanted.
While you were reading books, sitting in classes and nursing your process addiction, they were putting their plans into action.
You never considered that your search, expecting other people to solve your problems, assured your failure.
No one can help you become a success if you don’t really belief that you can. It’s just that simple. That’s why most achievers don’t adhere to accepted dogmas or popular trends.
The self-help concepts you’ve bought into are designed to hook you and keep you spending, that’s all.
The only secret to success is this (which actually isn’t a surprise); if you really want something, get off you butt and go get it. If you’re serious, you’ll find a way to make it happen.
Anything else is fantasy, and successful people don’t buy dreams, they sell them.

Happy New Year?

What makes the coming year any different from this one, or those prior?
I’m sure your excitement about past years wasn’t simply sustained by goals, lists or resolutions.
Plotting and planning is fine, if you’ve got a lot of free time on your hands. But this approach isn’t realistic if you’re serious about getting things done.
Why?
Because words on paper, or affirmations robotically repeated, lack the focused energy of clear thinking and profound feeling that open you up to the various twist and turns of life, particularly when it comes to effectively dealing with others.
Knowing what you want and working positively with people will make your goals a reality.
They’re no shortcuts.
(Also, beware to never upset the delicate balance between your desires and social skills. Missteps in this area can spell your doom.)
So fire up your passions and make commitment and tenacity your soulmates.
It’s time to put the lists and prayers aside and start living.
Ultimately, this is how your dreams will come true.
Take care,
Gary
